This Margarita is most closely associated with Mexican culture and cuisine, however, it is unknown if the drink actually originated in Mexico since it remains unclear who mixed up the first Margarita. One story tells us that the owner of a Mexican restaurant, Carlos (Danny) Herrera first crafted the drink in 1938 for a dancing girl who was allergic to all alcohol forms except tequila. Another story tells us that in 1948 a wealthy Dallas woman named Margarita Sames invented the drink for her friends, including Tommy Hilton of Hilton hotels, who brought the cocktail to the hotel chain. Either way, the classic tequila cocktail that is served with salt and lime creates the iconic Margarita that we love and enjoy today! While there are many amazing variations out there, we still hold the classic margarita close to our hearts.
