The Whiskey Sour is one of the most misunderstood cocktails, it’s often made at dive bars with cheap, sugary sweet and sour mix, but the original Whiskey Sour is far from the sugary cocktail it has become. This frothy drink is easy to recognize at any bar counter, even from a few seats down, due to the foam that crowns this drink. An intriguing combination of lemon juice, sugar, bourbon, and egg white — the whiskey guiding through the bitter lemon, the egg white foam giving the drink a creamy texture. It can be served in a coupe, or on the rocks in an Old Fashioned glass, garnished with a cherry, lemon slice, or, our preferred garnish, a couple dots of Angostura Bitters.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Bourbon
  • ¾ oz. Lemon Juice
  • ¾ oz. Simple Syrup
  • 1 Egg White
  • Angostura Bitters (for garnish)

Tools You’ll Need:

Preparation Steps:

  1. Combine Bourbon, Lemon juice, Simple syrup, and Egg White in a shaker and vigorously dry shake (without ice).
  2. Add ice and shake again.
  3. Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain into a Coupe Glass
  4. Using a dropper bottle, drop a couple dots of Angostura Bitters on top of the foam. Drag a toothpick through them to create heart shapes.
