When you think of a dry martini – you think of gin, dry vermouth, and olives. However, what sets it apart is how it doesn’t make use of equal parts sweet and dry vermouth like its sister drink, the perfect martini. This crystal cocktail traces its rumored origins to as early as the 1860s near Martinez, California, at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco. This iconic classic can be enjoyed at fancy gatherings and quiet evenings at home, which has led bartenders like Dale DeGroff to refer to it as ‘the king of cocktails.’ Quite rightfully so.
